Women Takeover Four More Facilities

This feels like it comes from the plot of a Bruce Sterling book:

ESCRAVOS, Nigeria (AP) - Hundreds of unarmed women seized control of at least four more ChevronTexaco facilities in the Niger Delta Wednesday, even as the 10-day occupation of an oil terminal by other village women ended.

The occupations were spurred at least in part by the crushing poverty in which villagers live amid the region's oil wealth. Nigeria is the world's sixth-largest exporter of oil and the fifth-largest supplier to the United States.

Here's the Wired News take on Jobs' MacWorld New York Keynote.

I have one significant quibble with the article:

Jobs said Rendezvous will be released as an open-source application.

No, he said it's based on open standards. This is a big difference. But let's not get lost in details -- this zero-configuration networking stuff (which lets you dynamically discover things like printers, iTunes playlists, and other chat users that are on your local network) is deeply cool. I'm really looking forward to moving over to Jaguar.

By the way, I'm extremely thrilled about the new Audible support in iTunes 3. I just hope the new iPod software that also supports it is released soon.  12:39:16 PM  (comments []
