I've been rereading House of Leaves, and Skye lent me a copy of Haunted, which is an album by the sister of the author, and is a companion piece to the book. Just like the first time, I only sort of have any idea what's going on, but I'm enjoying the heck out of trying to figure it out.

The review to Haunted linked above has some interesting context; apparently what triggered this whole project was that the Danielewskis found a recording of their dead father, and it re-awakened old ghosts for them. Also, I'm currently grooving on how the very literary, dense, and intertangled book seems to be itself a prison for some kind of creepy, terrifying idea that I'm fascinated and afraid to unearth.  10:43:55 PM  (comments []

As cough professional research cough I went and saw The Animation Show at the Alamo Drafthouse. (No, really, it was research! My beer-soaked napkin is full of like twenty new effects ideas!) The show was pretty uneven, but when it was funny, it was really damn funny. It also had a few shorts I'd seen at SIGGRAPH last year, including The Cathedral and Fifty Percent Gray.

Bitter Films makes some awful, awful, awfully funny stuff. Billy's Balloon was wince-tastic. And Rejection was just fuckin' hilarious.  10:30:53 PM  (comments []
