Gear Notes:

Since I'm currently docked to the mothership, I went down to the employee store and picked up an Airport Express. Holy moly. It's only marginally bigger than my PowerBook power brick, and with no effort whatsoever allowed me to start using my wired hotel connection as a wireless one. I haven't tried the USB printing or the music streaming angles yet, but just for sheer portable travel WiFi, this is a freaking winner. (Yes, I understand I sound like a corporate shill here, but this is just pure satisfied customer talking.)

Sprang showed off his new Canon EOS-1D Mark II camera. Impressions: having a bigger viewfinder makes for a startling difference; determining focus seemed like it was an order of magnitude easier. On the other hand, the thing weighs around 3.5 pounds, which makes it only a little less of a commitment to lug than a laptop. It generally feels pretty big. But it can take nine shots a second, and how sweet is that?  4:13:45 PM  (comments []
