Shockingly, T-Mobile HotSpots seem to have gotten useful when I wasn't looking. They apparently provide coverage now in Borders bookstores (as of today -- at least for my local one), as well as the Austin, Pittsburgh, and San Jose airports, at least in the American Airlines sections. And the pay-as-you go plan actually sounds useful, since the 10 minute billing minimum actually fits my usage style. It's priced a little higher than I'd like... but only a little.  8:17:13 PM  (comments []

The toppling of Saddam's statue [BBC] is a fascinating media moment. Regime change is mostly symbolic; what does it actually mean to hold power? When's the moment when you lose it? I find it hard to believe that the fighting is over, in any way, shape, or form -- but in most people's minds, Saddam fell when his icon fell.  3:03:25 PM  (comments []

Concordes to make final landing [CNN]. I'm kind of sad I'll never have the chance to ride on one of these things. But, hey! Bring on the moon shuttles!  3:00:38 PM  (comments []
